Published: 5th October 2005 Greater hunger too much for GamesleyGamesley 2 Woodley Sports 3 GAMESLEY lost their top-of-the-table Mid Cheshire League clash to a Woodley side that was hungrier for the win. Although they never gave Gamesley time to settle and ran for everything, Woodley had to come from behind as Andy Heath headed Gamesley into the lead from Steve Pearson’s cross. Bryan Cappor put a good chance wide but two goals in a couple of minutes gave Woodley the lead. Lawrence equalised with a 30-yard shot before keeper Stuart Lindsay misjudged a cross from the right which ended up in the net. With Gamesley pushing forward, there were always opportunities for Woodley on the counter-attack. One of these saw Wakefield upended by Clegg and Dalrymple score from the spot. Although they could have gone further behind, Gamesley continued pushing forward as Simon Yates and Brian Arrowsmith both hit the post, while desperate defending and a bit of luck also prevented the ball from going in. The deficit was halved though when Michael Dewhurst netted from Dan Brightmore’s pass, but the Woodley goal remained intact for the remainder of the game. This weekend sees Gamesley at Melandra Castle again as they entertain Golbourne on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Published: 21st September 2005 Gamesley’s sloppy showBroadheath 4 Gamesley 2 GAMESLEY tasted defeat for the first time this season in the Mid-Cheshire League against an Altrincham side quicker in all departments. It was only keeper Stuart Lindsay who prevented a rout as Gamesley had a lot of the play but produced a poor final ball. Sloppy marking in the Gamesley defence led to the opener as the ball was not cleared and Scott duly scored, adding a second soon afterwards. However, Gamesley were back in the game when Michael Dewhurst found Andy Heath who made no mistake. Broadheath then went in front with a controversial goal as Steve Bates appeared to be fouled, but with Gamesley stood waiting for a whistle that never came, McMurdo showed a clean pair of heels and scored. Lindsay made five or six fine saves to deny Broadheath but he could not do anything about a scrappy fourth goal which came from a corner. Simon Yates pulled a goal back, while Dewhurst hit the bar and post, but it was a poor performance. There was no joy for the reserves either as they lost their game 2-1.
